Steph Beyond The Stork
We know Steph as the founder and owner of The Green Stork. This short interview is our way of getting to know her after she takes off the badge and uniform. We want to go past the joys and nitty gritty of being a doula, birth educator, and placenta encapsulator. Let’s find out more about Steph… beyond the Stork.
You just got home from a 16 hour birth, everything went perfectly, what’s the first thing you do?
Depending on the time of day I either stop for coffee or kiss my kids. I unload my bags and shower then typically do a bit of yoga. My body and mind are TIRED most of the time. Chances are more likely then not that I arrived at this birth in the night time hours. I’ll likely want to disappear and sleep in a big fluffy bed since I’ve been awake for so long.
Your guiltiest pleasure of any kind?
Coffee, and my home made chunky monkey ice-cream. YUMMY!!! It’s seriously amazing and took me about a year to perfect.
If you could be someone else for just one day, who would it be and why?
M.J. when he was still playing in the NBA. YEAH! How awesome would that be? I would dunk and own that court! Just the thought gives me chills.
What is the most outrageous thing you’ve ever done?
Jumped off a bridge (into a lake) because my 5 year old really wanted to do it and I didn’t want him to not do it because I was afraid. He wanted one of us to go along. (My guy is the one to the right of me in the green jacket.)
Do you have any tattoos?
Yes, I’m longing for one more small one on my wrist.
What’s the most embarrassing style you’ve rocked?
This makes me laugh. When I was in junior high and in high school in CA baby oil was in. Like in my hair! You know how curly you can make your hair when you put baby oil in it then curl it? I rocked that curly hair any chance I could. Normally my hair is stick straight.
What is your all-time favorite book and why?
Daring Greatly by Brene Brown or Baby Catcher by Peggy Vincent
Top 3 things on your bucket list and why?
Ski diving. I imagine I would take a really long time to actually jump, but would absolutely love it! Defiantly catch my first baby as a midwife. Rock climbing! That takes some serious strength. I’d love to be able to do that some day.
What is your favorite holiday and why?
My birthday! Lol. The 4th of July is defiantly #1. I’ve always loved it. I can’t pinpoint one reason why. It’s in the best month ever. My birthday is the 30th. It’s in the summer. My favorite time of year. The heat. I grew up in the desert. We get to be in the water more. Man I love summer time.
What is your greatest achievement to date?
Nursing my youngest for a very, very, very long time and overcoming all the obstacles we did together.
What is your most embarrassing moment?
Showing up to my first week ,in a new state and high school, as a 16 year old in Faribault, MN in black pleather pants. I had just moved from CA and that style hadn’t made it to the North. I can still remember the looks I got.
If you could do/have any job in the world, what would it be and why?
This is tough. A midwife? Or would it be what I’m doing now? I feel so blessed to have The Green Stork and have it blossom into what it is today. For the first time in my adult career life I can say I absolutely love what I’m doing!
We hope you enjoyed getting to know Steph in a different way! With her as your doula you will likely learn even more. You will then have the joy of getting to know Steph beyond The Stork, while getting the benefits of her knowledge and expertise because of The Stork.
